Ibuprofen Maximum in Q&A
Can you die from taking twice the maximum dose of painkillers (ibuprofen tablets)? Just wondering. Can you die if you take twice the maximum dose of Ibuprofen, not suicidal, just wondering. Please don't get all mad at me or anything.

supersaiyan4elby replied: "I doubt it i take more than the 2 at a time when i do take it. But too much pain meds in bigger amounts over time hurts your liver"

goddess replied: "4 tablets probably not. The whole bottle yes. Your body can only process so many things."

Jamie Z replied: "No, I take 2 ibuprofen 800's (1600 mg's) and I don't die. That's 8 regular ibuprofen."

st3psp8 replied: "Ibuprofen is hard on the liver. If you take lots of it at once or continue to take it regularly over a long period of time it can kill you."

DinhaC replied: "long-term use of ibuprofen may cause kidney damage (common fact), you wont die but you should NEVER take more than the prescribed dosage."

carrie c replied: "Very doubtful-but why did you take twice the max dose? What do you think the max dose is-800mg every 6 hours is OK-but let your doc know, and more than anything why? Pain?"

What is the maximum amount of ibuprofen i can take w/out it being too much and bad? i know its only ibuprofen but how much do you normally take at once the max amout.like four six 8?

Charlie replied: "You'd be smart to seek the answer from professionals and not just anyone with a computer and access to Yahoo. Here's a link"

Christy SD Nurse replied: "The most you want to take is 600mg every 4-6 hours. If you are doing this for more than a few days in a row you need to have your pain evaluated by a Dr."

dacmgb replied: "200 -400 mg. taken every 4-6 hours a day should be enough.Although the mamimum should only be 1200 mg,daily. Some doctors prescribe 600 mg 2 times a day.Careful though,it is hard on the stomach.Take food or milk with it."

Jessie J replied: "Okay here it is. You could take however many you feel you need to take. The only thing that could honestly hurt you is if you took 14-20 pills a day for a long time. It can cause liver damage in that instance, but otherwise you're golden. I take four at a time when I feel I need it. Though if you're taking it for muscle pain, just take 2 or 3 every four to six hours until you feel better. Hope it helps."

Sabbathmusic replied: "Well here is the deal. Regular Advil is about 200 mg's. Prescription Motrin is 800mg's. 4 of them. So I cannot see why 1,600 mg's would be too much. That would just be like a person taking two Motrins."

If you take the maximum dosage of ibuprofen...? so like however many pills is the maximum on the bottle and you keep taking them for a long number of days even when you really don't need the ibuprofen for anything... what would happen? liver damage? could it be life threatening?

W W D replied: "Even at lower doses, the main risk from NSAID's is GI bleeding. It has been suggested that GI bleeding from NSAID's may be associated with over 100,000 hospitalizations and over 16,000 deaths in the US annually. That sounds like a huge number, but the 100,000 is less than 2% of people using the drugs, so it's relatively safe."

I am 6'5" 350 lbs. i have very painfull tennis elbow how much maximum ibuprofen (advil) can I take daily? also how much naproxen(aleve) can I take ? and how much tylenol can I take ? which is best for severe tennis elbow strain and inflamation?

Eric E replied: "Your 350 lbs? and you were playing tennis? Was it on a Wii? Don't take any. Be a man."

barbc replied: "Naproxen is an NSAID, (non steroidal anti inflammatory) that will help with both the pain and swelling. Tylenol will only help with the pain. For these drugs, no matter what your weight, you need to follow the directions given on the label for maximum dosing, because with concern is with overtaxing your liver (Tylenol) and possible bleeding problems with the Aleve. Taking more than the recommended amounts of either one of these drugs will not increase their effectiveness, and only put you at risk. Wishing you a quick recovery,"

Mariafelix G replied: "YOU SHOULD CONSULT YOUR DOCTOR OR GO TO A PHARMACISTS IM PRETTY SURE THEY CAN HELP YOU OUT."

versantly replied: "see your orthopedist to inform him that the pain has worsened."

gillianprowe replied: "I have Rheumatoid Arthritis and suffered from Golfers Elbow for several years. No I do not play Golf. Anyway the Doctor was giving me steroid shots into the elbow, which worked for about 3 months and then it came back with vengeance. Just so happened I ended up at PT and then sent forward to learn Pilate's. During the Class we had to start to take our body weight up onto our elbows and I protested: Golfers elbow! The PT simply said 'If you do not do this you will never cure your Golfers Elbow!' I am thinking: cure, I have had loads of injections and they did not cure it. Anyway very slowly over about six weeks I started to let my elbow take the strain and the PT was correct, cured! Best of Luck"

What happens when you mildly overdose on ibuprofen? So, we're discussing use of drugs and their effects on body in our chem class. We came across the use of ibuprofen and paracetamol and its common abuse by people. I then remembered how when I was younger, I would often hear about overdose on drugs. After reading a Advil's label, which indicates that 6 pills are maximum, what would happen if a person was to over dose with around 3000 mg of ibuprofen at a body weight of 150 lbs?

Annie D replied: "If you value your stomach lining or your kidneys you won't take that much."

John de Witt replied: "Most people get a bellyache. A few will get gastric erosions and possibly bleeding. Others, especially if their renal blood flow is compromised, will have decreased renal function, and people with borderline heart failure may decompensate."

What would happen if I took 6 ibuprofen? I thought the maximum I could take was 4, so I went ahead and took 6 (my nose hurt really bad). But I read the label afterwords just to check and the maximum was 1 every 4 to 6 hours. Will this just make me feel weird or what? I'm severely underweight if that makes any differrence.

midnightnocturne0 replied: "stomach bleeding"

beerme85 replied: "Normal ibuprofen is 200mg, prescription ones are 500 and they tell you to take 2, so you haven't really taken an overdose. Nothing will happen."

westwife12 replied: "Depends on the dosage. I take 4 ibupforen all the time, but they are 200mg's so 800 total. I know that if I take too many sometimes it tears up my stomach. But that is all I have noticed. Thanks"

montana_rain73 replied: "If you do it for a extended period of time it will cause stomuch bleeding. For one time it won't hurt you at all. I used to have really bad knees and my doctor told me that when they were really swollen I could take up to 8 ibuprofen 3 times a day for no longer then 5 days with no side effects. Have been doing it for years and no problems yet."

anissia replied: "probably nothing you should be alright. 6 is not that many"

bonstermonster20 replied: "You could cause serious and permanent damage to your stomach and liver."

Egoistic Joker! replied: "What will we do with you? Why did you take so much? Where did I go wrong? Call the toll free number on the bottle and see what they say. Don't take anymore please."

Janet B #1 replied: "I wouldn't make a habit of it as it can eat your stomach up. Try reading the label the next time because it would be quiet around here without you. : {"
